AMAN has died after get­ting into dif­fi­culty while swim­ming with friends in the sea. The man, in his 20s, died while swim­ming off Rhos­neigr last Tues­day evening, North Wales Po­lice have con­firmed.

He was air­lifted to hospi­tal after be­ing pulled from the sea but was later pro­nounced dead.

A po­lice spokesman said: “At ap­prox­i­mately 8.15pm, on Tues­day 8th May, 2018, North Wales Po­lice were alerted after a man’s body was re­cov­ered from the sea at Rhos­neigr, An­gle­sey, after he had been swim­ming with friends.

“Emer­gency ser­vices were quickly on the scene and the man, aged in his early 20s, was con­veyed by Air Am­bu­lance to Ys­byty Gwynedd.

“But, de­spite the ef­forts of his friends and med­i­cal staff, he sadly passed away a short time later.

“The man, who is not from the area, has been iden­ti­fied, but not named at this time to al­low fur­ther fam­ily mem­bers to be in­formed.

“His death is not be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious.

“HM Coro­ner for north west Wales has been in­formed.”

The Coast­guard, RNLI and am­bu­lance ser­vice also at­tended the scene.

A coast­guard spokesman said: “We re­ceived a 999 call from a mem­ber of the pub­lic, at around 7.55pm, re­port­ing that there was an over­due swim­mer.”

They said that RNLI teams also at­tended and the man was taken to hospi­tal.

A Treard­dur Bay RNLI spokesman said: “The At­lantic 85 and D Class boats were launched im­me­di­ately, ar­riv­ing at Rhos­neigr at the same time as the Coast­guard 936 he­li­copter Upon ar­rival, the RNLI Vol­un­teers were in­formed that three men had en­tered the wa­ter and one had got into dif­fi­culty.

“Paramedics from the Welsh Am­bu­lance Ser­vice also at­tended the in­ci­dent.

“The ca­su­alty was air­lifted to hospi­tal.”
