MAN IN 20S DIES AFTER SEA SWIM
AMAN has died after getting into difficulty while swimming with friends in the sea. The man, in his 20s, died while swimming off Rhosneigr last Tuesday evening, North Wales Police have confirmed.
He was airlifted to hospital after being pulled from the sea but was later pronounced dead.
A police spokesman said: “At approximately 8.15pm, on Tuesday 8th May, 2018, North Wales Police were alerted after a man’s body was recovered from the sea at Rhosneigr, Anglesey, after he had been swimming with friends.
“Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the man, aged in his early 20s, was conveyed by Air Ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd.
“But, despite the efforts of his friends and medical staff, he sadly passed away a short time later.
“The man, who is not from the area, has been identified, but not named at this time to allow further family members to be informed.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious.
“HM Coroner for north west Wales has been informed.”
The Coastguard, RNLI and ambulance service also attended the scene.
A coastguard spokesman said: “We received a 999 call from a member of the public, at around 7.55pm, reporting that there was an overdue swimmer.”
They said that RNLI teams also attended and the man was taken to hospital.
A Trearddur Bay RNLI spokesman said: “The Atlantic 85 and D Class boats were launched immediately, arriving at Rhosneigr at the same time as the Coastguard 936 helicopter Upon arrival, the RNLI Volunteers were informed that three men had entered the water and one had got into difficulty.
“Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service also attended the incident.
“The casualty was airlifted to hospital.”
