Wall wins WPL young player of season

-

DESPITE having lost their Welsh Premier status last season, Bangor City fared extremely well in the league’s annual awards.

Last Saturday’s ceremony saw City provide three of the four contenders for Young Player of the Season – midfielder Luke Wall, striker Dean Rittenberg and goalkeeper Matthew Hall. Tom Holland of TNS was also in the frame, but the award went to Wall.

Three Bangor players made WPL Team of the Season – defender Danny Holmes, who has since joined Connah’s Quay Nomads, plus Wall and fellow midfield man Danny Gosset.

City were relegated despite finishing second in the table as the club failed to secure the mandatory Tier 1 and Uefa licences. They will compete in the Huws Gray Alliance next term.

Former Bangor d defender and now Cefn D Druids boss Huw G Griffiths was named M Manager of the Season.

Griffiths led the Ancients to a highestever fifth position in 2017/18, and the club qualified for Europe after beating Cardiff Met in the Europa League p play-off final.

He beat stiff competition from fellow contenders WPL titlewinning boss Scott Ruscoe of The New Saints and Andy Morrison of Connah’s Quay Nomads.

Player of the Season went to Jamie Mullan of champions TNS, who finished ahead of t team-mate Greg Draper a and Aberystwyth Town right-back Declan Walker. Draper bagged the Golden Boot for his 22-goal haul.
