New ra­dio sta­tion is mak­ing waves

MôNFM, the com­mu­nity ra­dio sta­tion for An­gle­sey and North West Wales, has been short­listed in the an­nual Com­mu­nity Ra­dio Awards.

The sta­tion has made the short­list, which was whit­tled down from more than 360 en­tries from 77 sta­tions from every cor­ner of the UK.

The sta­tion has picked up nom­i­na­tions in the ‘Live Event or Out­side Broad­cast of the Year‘ for its work at the 2017 Na­tional Eisteddfod in Bod­ed­ern on the Isle of An­gle­sey and ‘Arts & Cre­ative Ra­dio of the Year’ for its cov­er­age of Fo­cus Wales in Wrex­ham.

Tony Wyn Jones, act­ing sta­tion Chair­man, said: “We are de­lighted to have been recog­nised among a large num­ber of other sta­tions do­ing great work as a re­sult of our pres­ence in two of Wales’ pres­ti­gious events – every day, we are ex­tremely proud and hum­bled to have the plea­sure of work­ing along­side so many ded­i­cated and giv­ing vol­un­teers who spend their time help­ing char­i­ties, good causes and com­mu­nity projects.

The sta­tion spent the equiv­a­lent of more than a thou­sand vol­un­teer hours broad­cast­ing last year, and one busy pe­riod in­volved 15 days back-to-back over three events at­tended by hun­dreds of thou­sands.

Martin Steers, awards com­mit­tee chair, said: “We’re re­ally able to show off the di­verse broad­cast­ing that the sta­tions un­der­take.”
