UNBEATEN Welsh Alliance Division One leaders Llangefni Town turn their attention to the FAW Trophy this Saturday when they welcome Gaerwen to Talwrn Road for a second round tie (2pm).

Cefni enter this weekend’s clash in awesome form, having come back from 2-1 down in last Saturday’s league tussle with Greenfield to triumph 4-2 with three goals in the last 10 minutes.

This was a match home side Llangefni should have put to bed in the first half, creating enough chances to win two games and hitting the woodwork five times.

In the opening minutes, Kevin Lloyd rattled the crossbar from 25 yards. Matthew Jones gave Cefni the lead on the half-hour, heading in Lloyd’s cross to make it 1-0 at the interval.

The hosts fluffed early second-half chances, then, on 60 minutes, Greenfield were awarded a penalty for a push on Daniel Sim. Danny Calvert stepped up to equalise.

The match became more of a battle with Greenfield choosing to up their physical game. Good work from Mark Johnson on 74 minutes opened up Cefni’s defence. A through ball from Calvert released Shaun Beck, who was through on goal but brought down by keeper Steve Sinclair.

Calvert made it 2-1 to the visitors from the spot.

The home side did not panic and showed excellent character to bounce back. On 79 minutes, a fine shot by left-back Jack Williams levelled it. Lloyd then got the ball in the 18yard box. Back to goal, his back-heel found Williams who delivered a brilliant ball to sub Iwan Jones at the back post to score from six yards.

Greenfield pushed everything forward and, on 90 minutes, gained a corner. This was dealt with by the Cefni defence, and a long ball found Lloyd, who shrugged off his opponent and had only the keeper to beat, but was pulled down by the last man, who was lucky to stay on the pitch.

The third penalty of the match was converted by Lloyd to seal a 4-2 win in this thrilling encounter.
