Berffro still stunning the ‘big boys’

Bangor Mail - - NEWS - Aberffraw (yellow) on the attack against Llannerchymedd

ABERFFRAW stunned Welsh Alliance League Division Two leaders Llannerchymedd with a 6-3 victory at Cae Cynlas at the weekend.

Having beaten Division One Bodedern Athletic on away territory in the Welsh Cup the previous weekend, Berffro were in the mood to cause another upset, and they certainly delivered.

Nathan Moore and Richard Roberts pocketed a pair apiece for the hosts, Connor Rees and Gary Bolton one each, with Chris Byast and Rob Jones (2) responding for the losing side.

New signing Gary Jo Owen netted on his debut for Holyhead Hotspur, but it amounted to nothing more than a consolation as the Harbourmen crashed 6-2 at Meliden.

Owen, who netted 58 goals for Caergybi last season, had already bagged 16 this term for the Anglesey League side, but has decided to try his luck at a higher level.

Asa Thomas was also on target in a heavy defeat for Craig Brodie’s men.

Gaerwen were pipped 5-4 at home in a thriller against Pwllheli, Connor Gordon (2), Chris Bennett and Joe Lawson for the hosts.

Martin Byast gave Amlwch Town a half-time lead at Kinmel Bay with a penalty, but the Anglesey outfit ended up 2-1 losers at Y Morfa.

Pentraeth led Glan Conwy 1-0 through a Iwan Williams goal, but a late leveller by Jordan Phillips ensured it finished one-apiece.

In Division One, David Maddock’s fine finish secured Llandudno Albion a 1-0 verdict at Bodedern Athletic, while Geth Evans put Barmouth one-up at Mynydd Llandegai, but it ended 1-1.
