A wel­come re­turn for ac­claimed Llŷn artist

DAVID Grosvenor is one of the most pop­u­lar work­ing artists in North Wales and has been ex­hibit­ing with the award-win­ning Ffin y Parc Art Gallery since 2011.

David made a wel­come re­turn to the Conwy Val­ley gallery on Sun­day for what prom­ises to be a sell­sell out show, with 120 new works, his big­gest solo show to date.

Liv­ing in Cric­ci­eth on the Llŷn, the ac­claimed artist is not short of breath­tak­ing scenery to paint.

“His love of the land­scape is at onc e pas­sion­ate and utte erly un­sen­ti­men­tal,” ex­plains plains gallery owner Ralph Sanders.

“David is as com­fort­able when edit­ing his pal­ette to catch the quiet har­mony of grey wa­ter over grey rocks un­der a grey sky as when he ex­pands it to show pur­ple frost yield­ing to the yel­low heat trick­ling down the green-sided val­ley – life and light with all its at­ten­tion-seek­ing ca­coph­ony.” For his lat­est ex­hi­bi­tion, David has pro­duced a new col­lec­tion of land­scapes, from moun­tains to the coast, through­out the year to cap­ture it in all its as­pects and moods. Of his work David (pic­tured in­set) ex­plained: “Some of the paint­ings are tiny jewel-like jewel like win­dows onto some of my favourite haunt ts but the exh hi­bi­tion also in ncludes some f w works.” lo­ral still-life David was b born in to 1956. The son of a mis­sion­ary, David spent part of his child­hood in Mada­gas­car and stud­ied English Lit­er­a­ture and Art at Ex­eter Univer­sity, where oil was his cho­sen medium. “I was in­ter­ested in art from a young age,” he ex­plained. “I come from what you might call an ‘artis­tic’ fam­ily - both my father and grand­fa­ther were am­a­teur artists and my younger brother is also a pro­fes­sional artist and ex­hibits at his own gallery in Brus­sels.”
