New BBC comedy set on Anglesey to be aired in spring

Gavin and Stacey stars reunite for caravan-based show

STARS of hit Welsh comedy Gavin and Stacey are set to reunite in a new series set in an Anglesey holiday camp.

Family drama Pitching In is the latest offering from the BBC and will feature both Larry Lamb and Melanie Walters in leading roles.

Set in a caravan park near Lligwy, the show tells the story of three generations of the same family, all struggling to make the best of a very unusual set up on the North Wales coast.

Filming has begun, with both cast and camera crew spotted at various spots on the island.

Bafta award-winning Gavin and Stacey was described the “BBC 3’s biggest breakout comedy hit since Little Britain” but was short-lived at just three series long.

Lamb played Gavin’s father Mick Shipman while Walters was Stacey’s mother Gwen West in the acclaimed sitcom, which ended in 2010.

The new drama will also feature an all- star cast, including Hayley Mills, Caroline Sheen and Ifan Huw Dafydd, and will air in a daytime BBC One slot in spring 2019, and will have a primetime slot in Wales. The show will also stream online in the US. Larry Lamb said: “Eleven years after Gavin and Stacey burst onto the scene I’m heading out west again, switching Barry Island for Anglesey this time. “I’m delighted to be playing the role of Frank in Pitching In - it’s a touching, funny and romantic story and a fascinating glimpse of life on the north Wales coast.” BBC Cymru Wales’ Head of Commissioning, Nick Andrews said: “We all need more ‘feel good’ in our lives and this warm family drama promises to be just that. “Pitching In is a comedy drama about family, friendship and community, which will showcase the beauty of North Wales.”
