Motorist held twice in 2 days for drug driving

-

A man was arrested twice in just two days on suspicion of drug driving on Anglesey.

The 37-year-old was stopped in Holyhead on Wednesday morning by police officers carrying out road safety checks.

He tested positive for both cannabis and cocaine during a roadside drugs test, according to North Wales Police.

The motorist had also been stopped on the A55 at Gaerwen on Monday which saw him arrested on suspicion of drug driving and possession of a Class A drug.

He has since been released pending the results of further tests.

Roads policing officers also pulled over several other drivers on Victoria Road in Holyhead during safety checks including a woman who was driving on an expired licence and had no insurance or MOT.

The vehicle was also found to have defective side lights and two defective tyres.

Police then seized the vehicle from her.

Another man was stopped and on inspection the inside edge on one of the tyres was worn, despite having only purchased new front tyres four weeks ago.

It’s thought that the wear had been caused by the tracking being out of alignment causing the tread to scrub from the inside edge of the tyre.

Many of the motorists stopped were advised to have their vehicles checked over by a reputable garage due to the tracking on their tyres causing uneven tyre wear.

PC Eifion Jones from the Roads Policing Unit said: “With the winter months only around the corner it is essential that people are safe when out and about on the roads.

“Defective and under inflated tyres is a serious problem which affects steering, braking and the stability of the vehicle.

It is quite shocking when we see vehicles that have under inflated and dangerous tyres.

“Ideally tyres should be checked once a month and before any long journeys. This should include checking the air pressure, overall condition and that the tread depth is at least 1.6mm.”
