Bethesda’s target to conquer Mountain

That’s Moore like it as Craig fires four for Bulls to crush Caergybi in cup

- Quarter-final draw (Dec 9):

BETHESDA Athletic will have crucial points in their sights when they visit fellow newcomers Mountain Rangers in a North Wales Women’s League Division Two clash this Sunday (1pm).

Pesda top the table with four wins out of four and an impressive record of 23 goals scored with just four conceded.

Rangers lost their first four games but came up trumps last time out when they won 4-1 against Penrhyn Bay to get off the mark.

Bethesda made it five straight victories in all competitions last Sunday when they defeated Rhyl Development 2-1 in the NEWFA Cup.

Goals from Holly Beddall and Katie Midwinter ensured the Ogwen outfit advanced to the next round.

Rhyl had lost 5-1 at home to Pesda in the league at the start of the season, but last weekend’s cup tie at Parc Meurig was much closer.

Ceri Lois had an early attempt saved by away keeper Lauren Jones.

Midwinter’s turn and shot was pushed behind for a corner, which led to Athletic taking a 14th minute lead.

The Rhyl defence failed to clear and Beddall applied an instinctive finish.

Beddall saw a snapshot kept out by Jones, then Midwinter’s exquisite lobbed ball over the defence led to Ceri Lois firing just wide.

Ceri Lois was denied in a one-on-one with Jones, who also thwarted Beddall again before the interval.

Rhyl so nearly equalised early in the second half when Benjamin nudged the ball past keeper Jones, but a rapid Shannon Jade Jones managed to clear the danger.

Midwinter (No7 - pictured left) then let fly with a couple of piledrivers which Jones saved well.

The visitors had another chance when Ceri Purvis temporarily faced an open net, but her shot was eventually cleared.

A second home goal was needed to give them breathing space and it came via the classiest move of the match.

Midwinter executed a Robson-Kanu type turn just outside the box before advancing and although Jones got firm contact on the shot, the ball carried sufficient power to find the net.

Rhyl kept plugging on and in added time were given a penalty for handball.

Sade Benjamin netted from the spot, but that turned out to be the final kick.

Bethesda thank recent match ball sponsors Dewi Gwyn, Iolo Evans and Lois’ Cupcakes. CRAIG MOORE was on the mark four times as Bryngwran Bulls exacted revenge on Caergybi with a 6-4 victory in the Huws Gray Megan Cup.

The Holyhead side had beaten the Bulls by an identical scoreline in an Anglesey League battle last month.

Last Saturday it was Bryngwran’s turn to shine, Anton Williams adding a brace to Moore’s quadruple, Dave Webb, James Ryan, Barry Roberts and Liam Williams replying.

Paul Williams bagged a treble as CPD Y Fali also advanced with an 8-3 beating of Bodorgan.

John Morton (2), Marc Wilson, Mike Williams and Andrew Bailey pocketed the rest, Luke Allaway, Luke Gardner and Sam Hallas for the visitors.

Arriva Bangor progressed 4-2 at Llandegfan, Scott Hughes (2), Kieron Davies and Mathew Williams for the Busmen, Dave Parry and Robert Williams keeping the home side in contention. In the Lucas Oil Anglesey League, Cefni defeated Holyhead Hotspur Reserves 4-2, an own goal, Paul Jones, Mark Parry and Luke Williams the home hitmen, player-manager Mike Kelly and Kris Dunne responding.

Cemaes Bay overcame Llanfairpwll 3-0, Tam Morton (2) and Owain Griffiths sharing the goals.
