Magnificent seven in range for the Citizens

-

BANGOR City will target a seventh win in a row when they host Llanrhaeadr YM in the Huws Gray Alliance this Saturday (2.30pm).

The Citizens picked up another three points in a 2-0 success at Penrhyncoch last weekend, but victory came at a price with defender Anthony Stephens receiving a broken jaw which will see him sidelined for several weeks.

City had the ball in the back of the Penrhyn net inside the opening three minutes courtesy of Alex Darlington, but an offside flag cut short the celebrations.

Leigh Jenkins did well to keep out Darlington’s header before visiting stopper Chris Mullock did well to deny Craig Williams.

Ten minutes before the interval Marc Williams was thwarted by Jenkins before Darlington lifted the rebound over the crossbar.

Seven minutes into the second half, Bangor broke the deadlock.

Steven Hewitt crossed, Les Davies flicked on and Williams tapped home from close range.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 as Davies passed to Jake Phillips who fired low into the net - despite the best effort of goalkeeper Jenkins - to claim his first goal in a Bangor shirt.

Penrhyn almost pulled one back when former Welsh Premier midfielder Antonio Corbisiero crossed to Liam Lewis, but he could not find the target with his header.

When the Roosters did press the threeman Bangor defence looked up to the task with new signing Jordan Piggott settling in well alongside regulars Sam Barnes and Stephens.

With 15 minutes left City’s Williams rounded Jenkins and shot on target but the glovesman recovered well to prevent a third goal. Two minutes later Robbie Parry came on for Darlington in the blues attack.

City pressed for a third with Phillips (twice) and Williams again going close but the home defence stood firm.

Bangor City Football Club AGM will be held on Monday, November 19, at 6pm.

The meeting will take place in the Farrar Suite at Nantporth stadium.
