Ordnance found after search in churchyard

POLICE have revealed why they have been searching the grounds of a church.

Officers carried out searches within the grounds at St Mwrog’s Church in Llanfwrog on the afternoon of Saturday November 3.

On Monday, police said that ordnance was discovered at the site by bomb disposal experts.

It is believed that the explosive may have been there for some time but it is not clear how it got there.

Chief Supt Nigel Harrison of North Wales Police said: “We can confirm that ordnance was recovered from this rural location by Military (EOD), which appears to have been there for some time.

“The items will now be subject to forensic examinatio­n and our investigat­ion will continue into how they came to be there.”

He added: “We undertook a full search of the surroundin­g area following the discovery to make sure there were no other items.”

Police have issued an appeal for informatio­n asking anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity near the church to come forward.
