Bangor Mail - - NEWS -

POLICE have revealed why they have been searching the grounds of a church.

Officers carried out searches within the grounds at St Mwrog’s Church in Llanfwrog on the afternoon of Saturday November 3.

On Monday, police said that ordnance was discovered at the site by bomb disposal experts.

It is believed that the explosive may have been there for some time but it is not clear how it got there.

Chief Supt Nigel Harrison of North Wales Police said: “We can confirm that ordnance was recovered from this rural location by Military (EOD), which appears to have been there for some time.

“The items will now be subject to forensic examination and our investigation will continue into how they came to be there.”

He added: “We undertook a full search of the surrounding area following the discovery to make sure there were no other items.”

Police have issued an appeal for information asking anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity near the church to come forward.

Anyone who can assist should contact police on their live web chat quoting incident number W156507.
