Pesda just lose out to champions

-

BETHESDA put up an inspirational display in going down 31-25 at Division One North champions Nant Conwy last Saturday.

Nant opened the scoring through a prepared move from a five-metre lineout. Hooker Tom Oliver dived over in the left-hand corner, Steffan Horan adding a fine two points from the touchline.

Nant went further ahead through a try by prop Robin Parry, who was starting his first match of the season.

Bethesda responded immediately when Ryan Nunes scored the first of his two tries – both being converted by fly-half Gerwyn Thomas.

Back came Nant when flanker Gareth Davies scored an opportunist try to go over, with Horan tacking on the two.

Two minutes later, the champions chalked up their bonus point try through ever-dependable No.8 Carwyn Ellis, Horan again adding the extras.

This was not the end of the scoring in the first half as Nunes and Thomas repeated their scoring feats of a few minutes before to produce an interval scoreline of 26-14.

Nant went further ahead at the start of the second period, when left wing Jack Moriarty sprinted over for a try.

From this point on, Bethesda came into the game more and more and it was no surprise when hooker Dafydd Wyn scored the third away try after 64 minutes.

This was the last try of the match as Pesda decided to go for a losing bonus point by attempting penalties.

Thomas was successful on two occasions to give a final score of 31-25.

Bethesda are home to Ruthin this Saturday.
