Gogs remain on rise –

-

RGC make the tough trip to Aberavon this Saturday boosted by back-to-back Premiership wins.

The Gogs climbed to sixth in the table following last weekend’s impressive 39-19 success versus Llanelli at Parc Eirias.

Although the visitors started well, the home side crossed the line first, when Billy McBryde finished off a break with a try against his former side, which he successfully converted

Llanelli answered back with a couple of penalties via Ioan Hughes and a long-ranger from halfway by Jonny Lewis.

Home try number two saw Tom Hughes work some space before setting up Iolo Evans to touch down in the corner, McBryde adding the extras.

McBryde added a penalty, but, before half-time, Tom Phillips crossed for the Scarlets, Hughes converting to make it 17-13 at the break.

Both sides traded penalties after the restart, with Hughes hitting a couple for Llanelli and McBryde replying.

The Gogs were looking to find that gap in the visitors’ defence but, on most occasions, the Scarlets were able to nullify the attacks.

With 20 minutes to go, RGC began to take a hold of the game up front, and a maul driven over the line ended with an Evan Yardley try.

McBryde again boosted with the boot.

Llanelli were not offering much attacking-wise, and were racking up the penalties for infringements around the breakdown, which enabled RGC’s pack to take control of proceedings.

The bonus point try arrived when Andrew Williams smashed his way across the line, and McBryde took his personal points tally to 19 with the conversion.

With the game won, the finishing touches were added with replacement hooker George Roberts claiming the fifth try after more good work from the RGC forwards, who can take huge confidence into this weekend’s game. Steve Lewis
