Festive cracker for Citizens:

-

BANGOR City will next be in action on Boxing Day when they travel to Porthmadog for what should be a real festive season cracker.

Second-place Port won 2-1 at Nantporth back in August and will be targeting a Huws Gray Alliance League double over the Citizens, who recorded an impressive 5-2 home victory against Holywell Town last Friday.

That result kept Gary Taylor-Fletcher’s side in fourth spot.

Alex Darlington was again on fire for City, notching his third four-goal haul of the campaign to move up to 19 in total.

Inside two minutes all-action right back Jake Phillips released winger Robbie Parry whose inviting cross was headed beyond goalkeeper Mike Platt by ex-TNS forward Darlington.

Five minutes later Platt denied Les Davies, but Darlington was on hand to slot home the rebound.

The Wellmen hit back just two minutes after when Matty Harvey’s cross beat all to nestle in the Bangor net.

With City in control via the midfield pairing of Yalany Baio and Sam Dool, the chances kept coming, but there was no addition to the score before the break.

Darlington went close a couple of times for the hosts, while ex-Bangor striker Steve Lewis was a threat at the other end.

The next goal was always going to be a vital one, with both teams fashioning openings after the restart, and it was City who made it 3-1 on 65 minutes, Darlington heading home for his hat-trick.

Holywell were still dangerous and City’s young debutant keeper Gruff Evans had to be alert to rush out and clear as Lewis ran on goal.

On 72 minutes it was 4-1 and just about all over as Jacob Farleigh’s cross was turned home by Darlington for his fourth.

With 15 minutes to go, a Bangor corner was half-cleared to Parry, who volleyed home to make the scoreline 5-1.

Phillips fired over from distance as City kept pushing for a sixth goal before, on 83 minutes, Sam Jones came on for Davies, who had given the visitors defence a difficult evening.

It was Holywell who had the last word four minutes from time as Shaun Tuck squared the ball to Harvey, whose long range effort flew into the roof of the Bangor net for his second goal of the night.

It was to prove little more than a consolation as Bangor forced a flurry of late corners but could not breach the Holywell defence.
