Hotspur lose lead to get draw in HGA clash

Bangor Mail - - SPORT - Football: Huws Gray Alliance

HOLYHEAD Hotspur and Conwy Borough fought to a creditable 1-1 draw in their Huws Gray Alliance clash on Saturday.

Mel McGuiness gave Hotspur the lead early in the second period, before Connor Harwood levelled for Borough.

Hotspur, who gave a good account of themselves against an organised Conwy side at the New Oval, had Dean Garmey dismissed.

High fliers Airbus UK Broughton put their title pursuit back on track after sweeping aside Llanrhaeadr 6-2 to move 13 points clear at the top.

Smarting from their first league defeat in 15 outings the week before, the Wingmakers made a swift riposte as Joe Palmer, Leo Riley’s looping header and Lewis Buckley’s penalty carved a threegoal interval lead against their Mid Wales visitors.

Joe Chaplin made it four soon after the break but Llan rallied as player boss Marc Griffiths headed one back from an Iain Edmunds cross.

Joe Vaughan fired a second but Airbus had the last word as Brad McGilloway rounded off a fine move and James Hooper became the sixth scorer with a solo effort to seal an emphatic win.

Two goals from Jake Roberts, his second five minutes from time, earned Buckley Town a 3-3 draw in a fluctuating clash at mid-table rivals Gresford Athletic.

Roberts opened the scoring for the visitors on 15 minutes, but Jordan MacCarter responded with the first of his brace for the Latics 13 minutes later.

Lewis Hone restored the Buckley lead on the hour, only for MacCarter (73) and Sam Molyneux (82) to put Gresford in front despite having Jack Challoner dismissed, before Roberts earned parity late on.

Boxing Day sees a couple of big derbies on the coast: form sides Porthmadog v Bangor City at the Traeth, and Rhyl v Prestatyn Town, both at 2.30.
