FOOTBALLER ATTACKED

APROMISING young footballer was left in hospital after being attacked on New Year’s Eve.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Porth Amlwch at around 11pm on December 31 following reports of an assault.

A 20-year-old, named locally as Rui Silva, was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, with what is understood to be a head injury on Monday night.

One local resident, who did not wish to be named, said the Bro Goronwy midfielder from Moelfre, may also have been bitten by a dog during the incident.

North Wales Police were unable to confirm if a dog was involved. although a spokesman for the force said a suspect did have a dog with him at the time.

Officers closed a road near Craig y Don while investigat­ions were made. Two men, a 30-year-old and a 28-year-old, were later arrested on suspicion of assault. The 30-year-old man, who is local to the area, was released under investigat­ion, while the other was released with no further action.

The local resident added: “At first, people were led to believe there had been a hit and run because Machine Street had been cordoned off.

“Later in the evening, I heard that someone had been assaulted and that police were searching for a certain individual.

“I have heard that he is in a lot of pain and that he is going to be in hospital for at least a couple more days.

“I wouldn’t class him as a close friend of mine, but I know of him and he is a polite lad who has manners.”

A spokesman for North Wales Police, said: “We were called to an incident at 23:04 on December 31 at Craig y Don, Amlwch. The road was closed while investigat­ions were made.

“A 30-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of assault and released under investigat­ion. A 28-year-old was also arrested but was later released with no further action.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service, said: “We were called at 11pm to Machine Street, Amlwch. We responded with one rapid response vehicle and one emergency ambulance. A patient was taken to Ysbyty Gwnyedd Hospital, Bangor.”
