Celts give lead­ers run for money

CAERNAR­FON Celts se­niors played their last reg­u­lar sea­son game on Thurs­day at the Brails­ford Cen­tre, Ban­gor against North Wales league lead­ers Mold Magic. An en­ter­tain­ing first quar­ter saw the Celts hold their own against the tal­ented Magic, the pe­riod end­ing Celts 17-16 Magic. The vis­i­tors re­turned in de­ter­mined mood in the sec­ond quar­ter scor­ing 29 points to their host’s 15, tak­ing a telling lead into the sec­ond half, Celts 32-45 Magic. An­other com­pet­i­tive quar­ter in the third saw both teams make some great bas­kets, the game re­main­ing tight as they en­tered the fi­nal quar­ter, Celts 51 – 65 Magic. Hav­ing built their lead in the sec­ond quar­ter the Magic looked to pro­tect their ad­van­tage and close out the game in the fi­nal pe­riod even­tu­ally run­ning out con­vinc­ing win­ners, Celts 66 – 82 Magic.

Celts Coach Ar­wel Jones com­mented: “We gave a tal­ented team a run for their money tonight.”

MVP and top scorer for the Celts was Niall Wil­liams. Due to their fourth place in the league, Celts se­niors will now face Mold Magic in the play-off semi-fi­nals at Mold on Friday, April 12th.
