JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULT

‘Obsessed’ attacker refused to believe teenager had no interest in him:

-

A RESTAURANT boss who attacked a woman with whom he was said to be obsessed still found it “impossible to believe” she was not interested in him as he was jailed for the offence, a judge said.

Stephen Lewis Nesbitt, 25, of Caernarfon Road,

Bangor (pictured), tried to open his teenage victim’s blouse, bit her thigh and forced his hand between her legs during the attack.

Prosecutor Matthew Curtis said the teenager had made it clear on several occasions that she had no romantic feelings for the defendant at all. During his sentencing at Mold Crown Court, Judge Niclas Parry said Nesbitt still found it “impossible to believe” she was not interested in him.

Nesbitt had been described as obsessive about the woman before the offences took place.

He sent her a naked picture of himself with his wrist partially covering his genitals, which he claimed was sent in error.

The court heard that, during his attack, he asked if she was sexually frustrated and tried to hug her.

The incident was reported to police: when questioned, Nesbitt denied an earlier incident when he was said to have bitten the woman’s ear and smacked her bottom, and said there had been “mutual flirtation”.

He denied biting her thigh and touching her genitals and claimed they had kissed consensually on one occasion.

In a statement, the victim said she had not been believed about the incident and needed counselling after she began to self-harm.

The court heard Nesbitt had no previous convictions and only pleaded guilty shortly before the trial was due to begin, leaving his victim in fear of having to relive the ordeal in court.

Jailing Nesbitt, Judge Parry said: “You have admitted an offence of sexual assault which underlines you think you have some entitlement to sexual gratification. It involved an element of sexual violence.

“She made it clear she wasn’t interested in you. Even now, you find it impossible to believe your victim was not interested in you. You set out to assault this girl.”

Nesbitt was jailed for 16 weeks and made the subject of a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting the victim. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for five years.
