Chefs serve up a feast in fundraiser

-

AGROUP of top North Wales chefs have served up more than £10,000 for Conwy families in need.

Five of the area’s best cooks joined forces at the Gwledd Dewi Sant to raise vital funds for Conwy Food Bank.

More than 60 guests were treated to a five-course feast to raise funds for the charity, with a different chef preparing each course.

Serving at the fundraiser were Mark Threadgill from Portmeirion Hotel, Ian Watson of Watsons Bistro, Conwy, Glyn Roberts from the Castle Cottage, Harlech, Michelin Star rated Bryan Webb of Tyddyn Llan, Corwen, and Wayne Roberts from the Manor in Conwy.

Guests were also treated to

some award winning matching wines from Deiniol ap Dafydd at Blas ar Fwyd in Llanrwst - all provided free of charge!

The food was also provided for free by Mermaid Seafood in Llandudno, Hughes’ Fruit and Veg of Llandudno, and Bala butcher T J Roberts & Son.

Organiser of the Gwledd, Guto Lewis, Director of BOCS Self-Storage in Mochdre said: “We were really pleased to raise so much money for a fantastic cause.

“We owe special thanks to all the chefs, the food and wine suppliers and The Manor, Gorse Hill who provided the venue for free.”

On top of the ticket sales for the event, more than £7,000 was raised from an auction of promises, with prizes including tickets to this summer’s Ashes cricket, Wales rugby 6 Nations and a chance for the chefs to cook in the winning bidder’s own home.

The Gwledd Dewi Sant is now already planning next year’s event with more chefs and more tables to meet the expected demand.

David Lackner-Smith, Chief Executive of the Sanctuary Trust Cymru, which administers the food bank, said: “This is a vital donation and not only helps us to keep operating this year but will allow us to expand our reach to meet the needs of more families in need in the Conwy Borough.”

As well as supporting Conwy Food Bank, an additional £2,400 donation was also made to this year’s National Eisteddfod, which takes place in Llanrwst in August.
