Brass band takes UK youth title
YOUNGSTERS from Gwynedd and Anglesey won the Elementary Section title at 2019 National Youth Brass Band Championships at Warwick School recently, with judges giving their performance a Gold Award.
Under the leadership of conductor Lois Eifion the band, the only one form north Wales, beat off competition from seven other bands from across the UK, in what was their first ever visit to this renowned competition. To add to this success the Senior Band lead by conductor Dylan Williams also came home with a Silver Award. Both bands are part of the Gwynedd and Anglesey Schools Music Service which delivers music lessons as well as band and ensemble opportunities in schools across both counties.
Ann Jones, Manager of the Schools Music Service, said: “This was an amazing result for us and I’d like to congratulate both bands.
“We are hugely pleased for them all and would like to thank tutors, children and young people who have all worked extremely hard.
“The success shows the value of providing our children with experiences and opportunities like this – it’s a key part of our mission as a service, and we look forward to seeing much more from this band and all our young musicians in the future.”
Conductor Lois Eifion said: “They’ve worked so hard and I’m very proud of them all – I’d like to thank each and every member of the band. Our aim now is to go from strength to strength and attract new players as the band develops.”
