On Saturday police announced he had died despite the best efforts of the medical staff who treated him.
In a statement released on Sunday afternoon, DCI Brian Kearney said: “First I would like to express my sincere condolences to Marie, Gerald Corrigan’s partner, Neale and Fiona, his two children, and the wider Corrigan family.
“This is truly devastating news and the thoughts of the entire investigation team are with the Corrigan family.
“On April 19, 74-year-old Gerald Corrigan was shot and suffered truly horrific injuries. Since then, he has shown tremendous courage and determination whilst being treated at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
“Sadly, early yesterday morning, Saturday, May 11, Gerald succumbed to his injuries and died with his family by his side.
“North Wales Police have now launched a murder investigation. However, we continue to keep an open mind in relation to the sequence of events that led to Gerald’s death. North Wales Police continue to pursue a number of lines of enquiry.
“I would like now to issue a renewed appeal to anyone with any information whatsoever to come forward and speak to my investigation team in total confidence.”
Mr Corrigan moved to Anglesey more than 20 years ago after he retired from his job as a photography lecturer in Lancashire.
The ‘decent respected member of the community’ was a wildlife lover and keen fisherman.
He was shot with a crossbow as he tended to his groundlevel satellite dish and managed to stagger back into his home to alert his partner.
Police revealed at the time that the bolt passed through his upper body and right arm. He was initially taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, before being transferred to hospital in Stoke.
