TARON SURPRISE DUET WITH SIR ELTON AT CANNES FESTIVAL
WELSH actor Taron Egerton has performed a surprising duet with music legend Sir Elton John at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
The 29-year-old has been on the French Riviera to promote new biopic Rocketman, in which he portrays a young Sir Elton.
During a gala party for the musical, the pair took to the stage to perform a rendition of the hit 1972 song, from which the film takes its name.
Introducing the Anglesey -born star ahead of the duet, the 72-year-old rocker referred to Taron as “incredible,” as he began playing the iconic tune on a piano.
The actor, who grew up in Llanfairpwll and Aberystwyth, had been announced as the film’s lead early last year and has since become close with Sir Elton - admitting recently that he’s stayed over at his lavish home.
It’s the latest in a string of Hollywood successes for Taron, who first shot to fame with the release of Kingsman: The Secret Service back in 2014.
His newest release, “the world’s first R-rated musical,” however sees the Welsh star reunited with previous collaborators - including Sir Elton himself.
The glamorous rocker had a minor role in the second Kingsman instalment, The Golden Circle, in 2017 - shortly before Taron was announced to play the iconic performer in the new biopic.
Rocketman also sees the actor reunited with director Dexter Fletcher - who held the same position on his Eddie the Eagle biopic in 2016.
And last week’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of the film has also given an insight into the reception it may face following its release - with Rocketman receiving a standing ovation from audiences and a mixed response from the critics.
Taron’s performance however was favourably received by critics and fans alike, with the Independent saying he excelled in the real-life role.
