Bangor confirm appeal against points penalty

- Daniel Bissett

BANGOR City have formally announced their decision to appeal against their 42-point deduction and effective second successive relegation.

The deduction is set to be taken from their 2018-19 Huws Gray Alliance season, which would see them relegated from the second tier as a result of the FAW panel ruling if their appeal is rejected.

The FAW also imposed a transfer embargo until December 31, 2019.

A statement from the FAW read: “We can confirm that the notice and fee has been received within seven business days of the publication of the Disciplinary Panel’s written decision and has therefore been lodged in accordance with FAW Rules 44.1.1 and 44.1.3.

“The appeal will heard by an Appeals Panel in accordance with FAW Rule 39.3.2, and as soon as the necessary arrangements have been made, we will notify the Parties accordingly.”

A club spokesman stated that “no further comment will be made at this stage”, with a possible trip to the Court of Arbitration for Sport also under consideration should the appeal be rejected.

The ruling relates to failing to comply with their financial obligations towards six of their current or former squad, with three past or present players reportedly outlining the same problems.

They also are alleged to have failed to submit a copy of employment contract for a specific player to the Association, which “did not follow the procedures set by the Association for Professional Players”.

This player took part in 11 Huws Gray Alliance games between November and March whilst being ineligible.

The club also failed to adhere to the FIFA Transfer Matching System (FIFA TMS) to obtain the International Transfer Certificate for another player, which “is a mandatory step for all international transfers of professional male and female players within the scope of eleven a side football”.

On a more positive note, midfielder Emanuele Gianmaria Zaminga and goalkeeper Gabriele Brino are the latest arrivals for the Citizens.

Zaminga has been at ASD Atletico Tricase in Italy, with Brino coming to Nantporth from Treviso.

The transfers of the players – both aged 21 – are, however, subject to approval from the FAW due to the recent transfer embargo.

Director of football Max Leghissa said: “Gabriele has been playing regularly in Italy and had options to join some Maltese teams in the Premier League.

“He is a great signing for us and one I look forward to seeing progress. Emanuele, meanwhile, has been over with us on trial and is a promising player.”

The players are just the latest in a flurry of signings including Francesco Serafino, David Thompson, Pavel Vieira and Massimo Sammartino and Davide Salvatore for the new campaign – in whichever tier that turns out to be.
