Bangor stay top with narrow victory

BANGOR remain top of the Premier Division in North Wales after a narrow 10-run victory at Northop.

The visitors scored 224-6 in their 50 oves with Nadeem Rehman top scoring with 71 assisted by David Winter and Franco Kasner, who both scored 43.

James Birch and Bart Beswick both took two wickets apiece for Northop.

The home side looked set for victory when they reached 184-4 but collapsed to 214 all out.

Ammar Mahmood scored 65 but Kasner (4-35) and (3-33) sealed the win for Bangor.

Denbigh got back to winning ways with a comfortabl­e six-wicket victory over St Asaph.

St Asaph could only score 129 all out in 46 overs with Danny Ryan (39) top scoring but Robert Schrimshaw, captain Harrison Jones and Sam Lewis took two wickets each for Denbigh.

Lewis (35 not out) and Joe Clayton (34) saw Denbigh home in 39 overs despite Ryan taking 3-40 for St Asaph.

Champions Menai Bridge beat bottom side Connah’s Quay by a massive 203 runs.

After being put in to bat by Quay, Bridge scored 334-7 in their 50 overs thanks to an unbeaten century from Robbie Jones and 96 from captain Dion Holden.

Martin Burger (3-100) and Callum Miller (2-41) were the Connah’s Quay bowlers who caused most problems.

Despite a brilliant 79 from as many balls for David Fox, Quay were bowled out 131 in just over 34 overs with Gerallt Roberts taking 5-34.

In Division One, Bethesda beat Abergele by five wickets at Pentre Mawr Park.

The Conwy side scored 121-7 in 50 overs with thanks largely to an unbeaten 51 by number eight batsman Edward Rooney.

John Maloney (3-14) and Carwyn L Williams (2-13) were excellent with the ball for Bethesda.

Despite falling to 15-4 in their run chase, the visitors reached their target in 46 overs as Jonathan Williams (39 not out) and Dewi Roberts (33 not out) guided them to victory. The result, their second of the season, leaves Bethesda ninth in the league having played seven games.
