RAIDS IN HUNT FOR CROSSBOW KILLER

...but still no arrests over horrific death of 74-yr-old:

- Sarah Hodgson

POLICE investigating the murder of a pensioner killed in a crossbow shooting on Anglesey have raided several properties on the island.

Officers descended on four premises in the Holyhead area in the early hours of last Tuesday morning as detectives continue to probe the death of Gerald Corrigan.

The 74-year-old was shot with a crossbow outside his home on South Stack Road in Holyhead on Good Friday, April 19, in what has been described as a “horrific crime”.

Mr Corrigan, a retired photography lecturer, suffered serious injuries in the attack and later died in hospital on May 11 despite medics’ efforts to save him.

The warrants executed last Tuesday were carried out under Section 8 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, North Wales Police said.

DCI Brian Kearney said last week: “Early this morning, Tuesday, June 4, teams of detectives, supported by crime scene investigators and specialist search trained officers drawn from throughout North Wales have conducted searches at a number of addresses in the Holyhead area.

“No arrests have been made following these searches, which are part of numerous ongoing enquiries, in respect of the murder of Gerald Corrigan.”

He added: “We are continuing to follow up all leads provided to us by our local community in respect of Gerald’s death.

“I have no doubt that the answer to this horrific crime lies with the public.

“I would continue to urge those close to the person or persons

involved to come forward to speak to me or my investigation team in total confidence.

“North West Wales remains one of the safest parts of the UK – we need our community’s help to solve the murder of Gerald Corrigan, an innocent 74-year-old pensioner.”

Last month, underwater search teams were brought in to assist in the hunt for the killer.

Police have also stopped a number of vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists in the area in a bid to collect further information.

North Wales Police said they still have a large team of officers and staff working on the murder investigation.
