£1m Menai Strait island attracting global interest

2.5 ACRES OF LAND INCLUDES PRIVATE BEACH AND HEADLAND

- Owen Hughes

THE estate agent handling the sale of a ‘paradise island’ in the Menai Strait says they have been inundated with enquiries.

A chance has come up to buy a sizable chunk of a small tidal island Ynys Faelog, which would be shared with one neighbour.

The section, which is owned by Bangor University, includes a two-storey building, a private beach and headland, with access to a secluded rear garden area.

It is reached by car over a tidal causeway.

The island was put on the market in June for £1m by Williams & Goodwin estate agent and commercial agent Avison Young on behalf of the university.

Williams & Goodwin director Tim Goodwin said: “Having launched such an individual property to the market place we have been inundated with enquires, not only from a local and regional level but even on an international basis.

“These have varied from prospective purchasers looking to renovate the property as a private residence, through to using the unique setting for a commercial purpose.

“The vendors are currently considering the offers received to date and it is anticipated an offer will be accepted in the next few days.”

The island is split in two and the main section which is being offered for sale extends to approximately 2.5 acres.

Tim Goodwin added: “For many, it is the stuff of dreams, with panoramic views, a private beach, its own secluded headland, and set amongst the mature trees and landscaped woodland areas. “Yet it’s just a few minutes’ walk from Menai Bridge town centre with its independent retailers, coffee shops and restaurants.”

Tom Merrifield, Director at the Avison Young Welsh Office in Cardiff, added: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“Whoever buys this slice of paradise could build their dream home on the island, subject to planning, or simply use it as a retreat to nature.

“The island oozes tranquillity and would make the ideal inspirational getaway, for someone who wants to enjoy exceptional views with their own woodland and beach.”

The sale is being arranged through private treaty – further information is available through both,Williams & Goodwin 01248 355333 and Avison Young 02920 248917.
