Draw leaves Bay struggling

-

COLWYN Bay’s ECB Premier League match at home to Leigh ended in a draw on Saturday.

Colwyn Bay posted 165-8 and Leigh 224-5.

Saliya Saman Jeewantha’s 44 not out was not enough to secure the result for the home side, whose performance was underwhelming in both the batting and bowling stakes.

For the visitors, Thomas Foster performed well, managing 82 not out.

It wasn’t the result that Bay would have liked as they remain in the relegation zone, now 18 points behind 10thplaced Southport & Birkdale.

The side have won only a single game out of their last five, losing three and drawing one. This weekend they face Formby, who will be looking to build upon their Liverpool Echo Knock Out Cup win against New Victoria on Sunday.

Despite this win, Elliot Ketteringham’s side have been in poor form, losing four of their last five games.

The Bay will be looking to exploit Formby’s poor run of form on Saturday in their hopes of maintaining their Premier League status.

In the First Division, Northop Hall won at home to Fleetwood Hesketh.

Michael Barnes won the toss for the home side and elected to bat as they went on to score 225-6. Mohammed Enamul Haque scored 59 not out.

A good bowling performance followed as Fleetwood Hesketh were skittled for 128, James Hurlin and Mohammed Enamul Haque taking five wickets apiece.

The result leaves the side in fifth, 36 points behind second-place Wigan.

Prestatyn suffered their third defeat in a row as they faced Highfield at home.

Prestatyn skittled the visitors for 109 but were unable to reach the modest target as they were all out for 81. Rhys Jones top-scored for Prestatyn with 31.

The result leaves the Beach Close side only six points above the drop zone and facing a difficult test this weekend as they head to face second-placed Wigan.
