Bangor defeat Bridge to go 10 points clear

BANGOR are in now in pole position to win the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division after beating local rivals and defending champions Menai Bridge by five wickets.

In the eagerly-anticipate­d clash, the Anglesey side won the toss and batted first but were restricted to 177-9 in 41 overs with opener Jack Gower top scoring with 31.

Bangor captain Gareth W Edwards took 3-30 and he was well supported by Christophe­r Dawson (3-46) and Franco Kasner (2-18).

In reply, the visitors scored 178-5 in 40 overs thanks largely to opener David Winter who scored 74 off 101 balls.

The win puts Bangor 10 points clear of Bridge, who remain in second place.

In form Mochdre suffered a rare defeat as Pwllheli completed the double over them with a narrow eight-run win.

Pwllheli batted first and scored 177 all out in just over 37 overs with opener Tristan Coetzee scoring 70 with Gareth Davies (4-43) and Kyle Brown (3-9) the pick of the Mochdre bowlers.

Chasing 178 to win, the home side were all out for 169 in just under 50 overs with captain Matt Humphreys scoring 38 as Iwan Moore took 3-11 for the Gwynedd side.

Captain Morgan Murray-Williams, Coetzee and Logan Rhys Morgan all took two wickets a piece.

Llandudno kept their recent impressive form going with a 24-run win over Brymbo.

Opener Sam Rimmington scored 88 in Llandudno’s 252-6 off 40 overs with Luke Kenworthy hitting 70 and Daniel Parry and Wayne Smith took three wickets each for Brymbo.

The home side were given a revised target of 257 from 40 overs but fell short, scoring 232-9 despite opener Gareth Pugh getting them off to a flying start by scoring 87 off 89 balls.

Danial Evans took 3-42 for Llandudno.

Gresford were comprehens­ive winners as they crushed St Asaph by nine wickets at home.

The home side won the toss and put the Denbighshi­re side into bat but the visitors could only manage 108 all out in 45 overs, 40 of them scored by opener Matthew Ryan as John Bell took 5-26 to skittle the St Asaph lower order.

Sam Thompson (42 not out) and Daniel Williams (41 not out) saw Gresford home in just under 25 overs with Liam Moores taking the only wicket for St Asaph.

Northop also had a big win as they beat Denbigh by 53 runs thanks to Jordan Evans who hit 109 off 98 balls, scoring 13 fours and three sixes and bowler Matthew Mullarkey, who took 6-22.

Northop scored 208-8 in 48 overs with Jack Griffiths (3-22) and Andy Clarke (3-39) leading the attack for Denbigh.

Despite being 109-3, Denbigh were all out for 155 with captain Harrison Jones top scoring with 42 and opener Gerallt Lyall scoring 38 as Mullarkey wreaked havoc to clinch the win for the Flintshire side.

Connah’s Quay came so close to getting their first win of the season as they lost by one wicket to Pontblyddy­n.

Quay scored 141 all out in a tense run chase. Pont were 135-9 but Chris Myles and Jonathan Byrd saw them home.
