Llangefni earn bonus point win
LLANGEFNI started their season with a 28-12 verdict over Caernarfon and a hard fought bonus point win.
Cefni led 21-5 at the break but the Cofis won the territorial and possession battle in the second half.
They reduced the deficit to 21-12 on 55 minutes, and were pressing for their third try in the home 22 on 75 minutes, but Greg Horsman timed his interception to perfection and sprinted in from 80 metres for the clinching score.
Cefni started the liveliest and Declan Griffiths timed his pick up well and bulldozed his way to the line for the first try which Sior Grieves improved for 7-0.
From the restart Cefni played themselves into trouble, and from the ensuing scrum Cofi number eight Mac Jones picked up and beat all would-be tacklers on a 40 metre run to the line.
Cefni extended their lead when Grieves timed his pass perfectly to second row Alun Roberts, who found himself in acres of space and proved unstoppable from 20 metres.
Horsman added extras for 14-5.
Another Grieves kick allowed Ioan Jones to retrieve possession with Andrews in support. When the ball was moved left, Horsman made ground into the 22. From the ensuing maul, Dion Oliver did brilliantly to cross from close range. Horsman’s kick made it 21-5.
Caernarfon dominated the second half with their pivot, Aled Jones kicking long and controlling the game very well and he crossed when Cefni ran out of tacklers.
Jones converted to make it 21-12 before Horsman’s dramatic interception. the
