AMLWCH CANOE CLUB: Meets in Amlwch pool 8.15pm-9.30pm. If you would like to try kayaking the club allows three Taster Sessions at £5 per person per session. Minimum age 8 and conditions apply to under-16s, parent/carers must stay in attendance for the sessions. Suggest participants wear a T-shirt, the sessions will involve capsizing in a kayak. ANGLESEY CENTRAL LIONS: Is a local service organisation, and registered charity that raises money, holds events, and assists in events. During 2015 it donated £3,400 to local worthy causes. AMLWCH SWIMMING CLUB: is the Para-Swimming Hub for Anglesey and seeks friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to support the club. The role of a volunteer will be to support children and young adults with varying disabilities to fully participate in the sessions. No official qualifications needed, just enthusiasm and reliability. Don’t worry if you don’t think you have the right experience or have not helped those with disabilities before. The club will provide training and another volunteer will with you during your early sessions to give you support. Once you have joined as a volunteer, the club will organise a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for you. END POLIO: Bangor Rotary Club are planning their second local ‘Light up the Menai Strait Purple’ project to raise awareness of how close the Rotary International campaign, which is supported so generously by Bill and Melinda Gates, is to eradicating Polio from the world. There are only two countries where the disease is endemic – Afghanistan and Pakistan. This year during ‘End Polio Now’ week, October 23-25, the Strait area will be illuminated once more. The week will begin with a multi-faith service in Bangor Cathedral on Sunday October 20 which will be open to everyone. Caernarfon and Beaumaris castles will glow purple (thanks to Cadw) as will the Anglesey Arms, Gazelle, Victoria and Bulkeley hotels, and the cathedral and Pontio building - plus many more supportive businesses and private houses.
