AML­WCH SWIM­MING CLUB: is the Para-Swim­ming Hub for An­gle­sey and seeks friendly, en­thu­si­as­tic vol­un­teers to sup­port the club. The role of a vol­un­teer will be to sup­port chil­dren and young adults with vary­ing dis­abil­i­ties to fully par­tic­i­pate in the ses­sions. No of­fi­cial qual­i­fi­ca­tions needed, just en­thu­si­asm and re­li­a­bil­ity. Don’t worry if you don’t think you have the right ex­pe­ri­ence or have not helped those with dis­abil­i­ties be­fore. The club will pro­vide train­ing and an­other vol­un­teer will with you dur­ing your early ses­sions to give you sup­port. Once you have joined as a vol­un­teer, the club will or­gan­ise a Dis­clo­sure and Bar­ring Ser­vice (DBS) check for you. END PO­LIO: Bangor Ro­tary Club are plan­ning their sec­ond lo­cal ‘Light up the Me­nai Strait Pur­ple’ project to raise aware­ness of how close the Ro­tary In­ter­na­tional cam­paign, which is sup­ported so gen­er­ously by Bill and Melinda Gates, is to erad­i­cat­ing Po­lio from the world. There are only two coun­tries where the dis­ease is en­demic – Afghanista­n and Pak­istan. This year dur­ing ‘End Po­lio Now’ week, Oc­to­ber 23-25, the Strait area will be il­lu­mi­nated once more. The week will be­gin with a multi-faith ser­vice in Bangor Cathe­dral on Sun­day Oc­to­ber 20 which will be open to ev­ery­one. Caernar­fon and Beau­maris cas­tles will glow pur­ple (thanks to Cadw) as will the An­gle­sey Arms, Gazelle, Vic­to­ria and Bulke­ley ho­tels, and the cathe­dral and Pon­tio build­ing - plus many more sup­port­ive busi­nesses and pri­vate houses.
