Pesda edged out by Llandudno

- Rugby union

BETHESDA hosted reigning champions Llandudno knowing something had to give, with both sides having enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season.

Pesda started by trying to impose themselves physically and were reduced to 14 men after only two minutes of play when prop Jack Owens was yellow-carded.

Following a further Pesda infringement, the Goats took a quick penalty and, following support play by backs and forwards, crossed the whitewash with Morgan Owen scoring the try.

Ryan Pike added the conversion.

The match was evenly contested throughout, with the Pesda backs looking very sharp, although the Goats had the upper hand in the set piece.

Following a spell of Pesda pressure, Gethin Harper crossed for a try converted by Gethin Long.

Pesda continued to infringe resulting in a penalty converted by Pike to leave Llandudno ahead 10-7 at half time.

The second half was an arm wrestle, with the visitors doing most of the attacking with resolute defence from Pesda, the only score being a further penalty converted by Pike to give the Goats the winning score of 13-7.

The match was played by two evenly contested sides, with Llandudno happy to take the spoils knowing not many sides will leave Pesda with a win this season.

In Division One, struggling Llangefni suffered a 47-15 defeat at Pwllheli, while in Division Two, Bangor were beaten 28-17 at Newtown.

In Division Three, Menai Bridge lost 20-13 to Mold seconds and Llangefni seconds were beaten 46-12 by Machynlleth.
