World Cup winner is City’s new manager
BANGOR City have appointed former World Cup winner Pedro Pasculli as their new manager.
Pasculli replaces former Citizens chairman Stephen Vaughan, who stepped down after a 7-0 defeat at Prestatyn Town in the Cymru North.
The 59-year-old won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986 alongside Diego Maradona.
He has previously managed a number of Italian clubs as well as Albania’s Dinamo Tirana and Uganda.
Pasculli didn’t take charge of the Citizens’ 3-2 win over Llanrhaeadr on Saturday but is expected to take charge of the team’s Nathaniel MG Cup clash at Bala Town on Tuesday.
Speaking to S4C’s Sgorio, Pasculli said: “It is a pleasure to be here and I would like to thank director of football Max (Leghissa) for giving me the opportunity.
“I want to work hard for the guys and get Bangor City back to where they want to be.
“I want the team to play hard, to win and enjoy their football. I also want this for the fans and the club but winning is the most important thing.
“I am going to work hard to improve the team and show dedication, and I want to get the very best from the players.”
High-profile names such as John Barnes had been heavily linked with the role prior to the appointment, which is another eye-catching move from new chairman Dominico Serafino as he looks to get the club back up to the Cymru Premier following a turbulent two years.
The Citizens headed into the clash against high-flying Llanrhaeadr plagued with injuries and suspensions.
David Cashman took charge of team affairs for the game but Bangor responded by securing an important three points.
Despite a flurry of chances in the first half, it was the visitors who opened the scoring.
The opening goal came through Thomas Gale, whose long range effort on the 30th minute, tucked into the far corner of the goal, put Llanrhaeadr ahead. It seemed to be a perfect first half for the visitors on the 45th minute mark, as they had held off Bangor’s multitude of attacking opportunities, and to top it off, they were going into the second half leading.
Fortunately for the Citizens, right winger Neto finally converted a chance and put them back in the game.
In the second half, fullback Massimo Sammartino put the home side ahead but Llanrhaeadr levelled again through Dan Hindley.
Moments later, on the 76th minute, the game went from bad to worse for Cashman and his team.
Minutes after conceding an equaliser, defender Lennie Armstrong is shown red, and sent marching from the pitch.
Despite being down to 10 men, Bangor kept looking for the winning goal and were rewarded late on when Llanrhaeadr’s Sam Thomas handled a goalbound shot and the referee pointed to the spot.
Thomas was sent off to even the team numbers and it was left to Serafino to step up and seal a much-needed victory for the Citizens and a debut victory for David Cashman which gave the team a confidence boost ahead of facing Bala.
