ANGLESEY CENTRAL LIONS: Is a local service organisati­on, and registered charity that raises money, holds events, and assists in events. During 2015 it donated £3,400 to local worthy causes. END POLIO: Bangor Rotary Club are planning their second local ‘Light up the Menai Strait Purple’ project to raise awareness of how close the Rotary Internatio­nal campaign, supported so generously by Bill and Melinda Gates, is to eradicatin­g Polio from the world. There are only two countries where the disease is endemic – Afghanista­n and Pakistan.

Amazingly just £1 will immunise 5 children with this life saving serum! This year during ‘End Polio Now’ week, October 23-25, the Strait area will be illuminate­d. Caernarfon and Beaumaris castles will glow purple (thanks to Cadw) as will the Anglesey Arms, Gazelle, Victoria and Bulkeley hotels, and the cathedral and Pontio building - plus many more supportive businesses and private houses.
