Striding out at Abergele 5-mile road race

TWENTY-THREE Cybi Striders runners made the short trip down the coast for the annual Abergele five-mile road race, this was also the penultimat­e round in the club championsh­ips.

This is a fast and relatively flat course, which saw the previous course record broken by Owen Roberts, from Rhedwyr Hebog Runners, who finished in 25:16.

First Cybi home was Andy Savage in 21st place in 29:36, followed by Chris Thomas 31:49 and Kevin Clark 33:07.

Barry Smith consolidat­ed his position as Division One men’s leader finishing in 35:51 just nine seconds ahead of second placed Sion Roberts 36:00.

Michaela Lauder was first Cybi lady in 37:23, followed by Sian Ellis in 38:49.

In the Ladies Division One, leader Sara Sawicz now can’t be caught after finishing in 42:43.

Division Two men’s leader Paul Maitland 39:19, maintained his lead from Richard Furniss 46:05.

In Division 2 Ladies, Pat Wilson had a great run and closed in on the leader with a new personal best of 51:51.

Other runners were: David Ellis 34:03; Gareth Southworth 35:36; Nigel Holmes 36:42; Dewi Williams 37:32; Paul Williams 39:35; Darren Seeney 28:43; Diane Holmes 42:33; Geraint Llyn 43:29; Cherie Duffy 44:47; David Roberts 44:47; Lucy Williams 49:19.

Cybi Striders are a running club based on Anglesey that welcomes all runners, regardless of ability. They meet every Monday in Llangefni at 6.30pm and every Wednesday at 7pm at one of their weekly locations to run four to six miles.
