Ward’s thanks for community support
STAFF on a surgical ward at Ysbyty Gwynedd have thanked the local community for their support after raising over £8,000 to purchase hospital equipment.
The team on Conwy Ward began their fundraising drive to purchase a bladder scanner back in 2017 and have since raised £8,506.
The fundraising events have consisted of a hog roast, tombola, raffles and support through local football games.
Sioned Jones, Housekeeper for Conwy Ward, who has been instrumental in driving the fundraising forward since joining the ward in 2018, said: “We are so grateful for the support of the community over the last few years to reach our target.
“We have received incredible support from local businesses and also our patients who have attended our fundraising events and donated.”
The new scanner will be used to measure bladder volume particularly for patients who have undergone surgery. Using the scanner can help prevent unnecessary catheterisation and reduce risk of infection.
Ward Manager, Claire Lisk, added: “We’d like to thank everyone for their kind donations which has enabled us to purchase the bladder scanner which will help assess patients quickly and safely to ensure our patients’ bladders are working and help to avoid infections such as sepsis.
“There has been amazing contributions and efforts to fundraise from the team here on Conwy, along with the support of the community, and I’m sure the new equipment will make a great difference for our patients and staff alike.”
