How to tell real notes from fakes

-

TWO teenagers were arrested after police stopped a stolen car on the A55.

The black Ford Fiesta Zetec was taken from Welsh Road, Garden City, at around 10.20am on Thursday – and hours later was seen driving on the expressway.

Officers pulled over the vehicle at Llanfairpwll – around 60 miles from where it was stolen.

Police released a picture of the car with a false number plate hanging off the back.

The roads policing unit shared a photograph of the car saying “See the false plate hanging off...?”

A 16-year-old boy and a 17-yearold girl were arrested at the scene.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “A car, which was stolen from Welsh Road in Garden City this morning, was stopped by us on the A55 near Llanfairpwll earlier.

“Two youths, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, were arrested on suspicion of the unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and are now in police custody.”

SHOPPERS are being warned about fake bank notes during the festive period.

Police say fraudsters are gearing up to flood our streets with fake money as Christmas approaches.

The Bank of England has published advice on how to identify real notes.

This includes revealing a handful of security features found on the legitimate £10 notes.

These defining features are:

■ The hologram at the bottom of the note will change from displaying the word ‘ten’ to the word ‘pounds.’

■ The image on the window near the middle should be gold on the front and silver on the back.

■ An image of the Queen should be displayed in this transparent window.

■ The foil ‘£’ symbol at the bottom of the window should be silver on the front and copper on the back.

■ The quill on the other side of the window should change from purple to orange (and vice versa) when the note is tilted.

■ A silver foil patch containing a 3D image of the crown should be on the front of the note.

■ A copper foil patch in the shape of a book should be found on the back of the note behind the crown.

■ The real notes are printed on polymer and you should be able to feel raised print.

■ There should be no smudges or blurred edges on the printed lines and colours, and you should be able to see the value of the note written in small letters and numbers below the main portrait of the Queen.
