Dewi Tudur
THIS week we talk to artist Dewi Tudur whose work will be on display at Ffin y Parc, Llanrwst.
Q
Where are you from? Tell us about your family:
A
I was born in Mold in 1957 and trained at Aberystwyth School of Art and Carmarthen College of Art from 1976 - 1980. Before my retirement in 2009, I combined a career teaching art with painting in Llanrwst, North Wales. I am now based in Italy with my family.
Too long a list to explain what everybody is doing and where they live. But I am here with my wife
Linda in Donnini, a little village in the hills above Florence.
Q
What are you best known for?
A
I guess I’m best known for my Italian landscape paintings, which I have been producing for years. But visitors should be pleasantly surprised by this latest show! Q
Tell us about your exhibition
A
A few months ago, while preparing work for my new show, I emailed Ralph Sanders, owner of Ffin y Parc Gallery, to say that I was going
How old are you?: 62
What are your best and worst habits: I am more content with myself and my work, despite it taking nearly sixty years! Also, being a perfectionist can have its down sides.
to be doing something a little different.
Revisiting subjects and ideas that I hadn’t explored in decades.
Along with the snow covered landscapes of Italy, most of my new show, at Ffin y Parc Gallery- entitled ‘Dewey and the Dragonfly’ tells the endearing story of a growing friendship between a boy and a dragonfly, set among the cypress trees of Tuscany in the 1960s.
Q
When is it running from/to?
A
Sunday, December 8 until Sunday, December 22.
Q
What can people expect?
A
I had the story ‘Dewey and the Dragonfly’ in my mind last year about the empathy between a little boy and a dragonfly. I’ve now
written the story and completed all the illustrations for this show at Ffin y Parc.
The biggest piece in the exhibition is three metres long and I feel it really shows the relationship of the little boy, Dewey and the dragonfly. Q
Tell us five things which make your exhibition great?
A
It’s not just landscapes but portraits too. There is a beautiful story in the collection of paintings. The biggest piece in the exhibition is three metres long. My solo show will run alongside a Christmas Mixed exhibition, which includes work from over 40 gallery artists including Matthew Wood, William Selwyn, Sarah Carvell and the highly collectable landscape painter David Grosvenor, to name a few, with all works under £1,000 and sold off the wall.
Dewi Tudur will have an exhibition titled Dewey and the Dragonfly at Ffin y Parc Q Tell us what’s good about the venue A Ralph and Roland have achieved something unique at Ffin y Parc Gallery. Q Who is your favourite artist and why? A Again, a list too long to explain, but if it has to be somebody it would be my father John Morris.
Q
What piece of work are you most proud of and why?
A
I am proud of all my paintings in this collection as they are different from my usual style.
After exhibiting for nearly 40 years, in what can sometimes be a lonely profession, I wanted to show that I’ve still got the sensitivity of touch and show what else I can do.
Q
Tell us a little known fact about yourself:
A
My father John Morris is also a highly regarded and collected landscape painter.
