Table-toppers Hotspurs hit five in rout
HOLYHEAD Hotspur are still on top of the Welsh Alliance Division One after hammering bottom side Prestatyn Sports 5-1 at the New Stadium.
Alex Jones (2), Deian Parry, Asa Thomas and Dean Garmey were all on target for the hosts, who have a perfect home record of six wins from as many starts.
The home side made a good start and went ahead on 11 minutes when Jones finished well following a period of pressure, and the same man was on hand to double their cushion with another well-taken effort with 33 on the clock.
Sports hit back on 36 minutes when Kris Owen took advantage of some rare space to halve the deficit. This joy proved to be shortlived as Spurs’ took a two-goal lead into the break thanks to Parry and after the interval saw the hosts continue to lay siege to the Sports’ rear-guard, who finally relented despite some heroics early on when prolific forward Thomas scored and they netted for the fifth time on 78 minutes when another outstanding period of possession presented a chance to Garmey, who despatched the attempt to complete the scoring.
Elsewhere, Adam Griffiths and Rhys Hughes netted in the second half as Penrhyndeudraeth recorded a 2-0 triumph over Mynydd Llandegai.
