Drink-driver arrested 2 minutes into 2020
A MOTORIST was arrested on suspicion of drink driving just two minutes into the new year.
Police have revealed that they arrested a motorist on New Year’s Day in the Bangor area after stopping them – and it could prove to be the country’s first drink-drive arrest of the decade.
It was just two minutes and 38 seconds after the clock struck midnight.
The force said the reading was more than twice the drink-drive limit.
A spokesman said: “Sadly, it didn’t take long for us to stop the first drink-driver of the new decade in Bangor... just two minutes and 38 seconds into 2020 with this reading of more than twice over the legal limit.”
Inspector Jon Aspinall added: “Despite repeated warnings to motorists not to drink- or drug-drive, people are still taking unnecessary risks.
“People may think we only focus on this at Christmas – we don’t, and if you continue to drink- or drug-drive, you will be caught.”
