Thought for the week

-

MURDER in the Middle East, ferocious fires in Australia, pathetic politics at home may leave us wondering if there is any hope at all for our world.

Let us pause from thoughts of despair and focus our New Year reflections in the direction of hope.

I for one find that in so doing I am overwhelmed by many images of good people doing good things. I see our young people so passionate about the environment and really wanting to play a role in reversing the deadly path of selfish destruction of the planet.

They led the way in our Colwyn Bay climate change demo which was attended by people of all ages including a wonderful 97-year-old gentleman.

I see too the remarkable achievements of the Kind Bay Initiative, the fruits of which have seen soup kitchens springing up in our town of Colwyn Bay enabling our homeless and vulnerable friends to enjoy a hot meal on almost every day of the week, including Sunday.

This is all down to good organisation by the leaders and a large number of cheerful volunteers. Brilliant!

I see too, in Llandudno, after months of preparation, the need and desire for night shelters is finally becoming reality, thanks to several churches offering their premises. Watch this space! Let us resolve to abandon the notion of being helpless and unable to do anything about problems.

There really are things that can be done, usually fairly small things but as Tesco loves to say, every little helps!

Action is the fruit of love. May 2020 be a year of love for all.
