JOBLESS MAN’S HELP OFFER PRAISED

-

AN unemployed man’s kind gesture to help victims of the storms that have recently battered North Wales has landed him several job opportunities.

Kyle Berry, of Holyhead (pictured), moved to the island 18 months ago and has been working casual labouring jobs around the region ever since.

He is currently looking for full-time permanent labouring work, and said he wanted to help people instead of sitting at home “twiddling his thumbs”.

The 32-year-old, previously from Wakefield, said: “I’d put the news on and saw how bad the flooding was in areas, I’d seen videos online, and I thought, right, I’m going to help.

“I don’t have anything to give other than my time, but I wanted to help anyone who needs it.

“I’m always applying for jobs but its a waiting game so I thought I’d help out instead of sitting twiddling my thumbs”.

Several people have commented on the post or have contacted Mr Berry directly to ask for his CV, to tell him about job leads and to ask him to get in touch.

Mr Berry moved to Anglesey to look after his father, who recently recovered from pneumonia.

He said that he has worked on a few labouring jobs but that there aren’t many opportunities advertised in the area.

He said that through recruitment agencies he will only ever find casual work, or that jobs fall through at short notice.

He added that in 2020 alone, four jobs he was set to take up fell through with little notice or reason given.

In a few days after the post went up on Facebook last Monday night, it had attracted almost 500 likes, more than 50 shares and nearly 100 comments.

Mr Berry said: “I didn’t expect the reaction the post has got.

“So many people have said well done, and that’s it’s restored their faith in humanity.

“I just want to say thank you for all the support.”
