London beat It’s time to reverse decades of decline

- With Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie

GOBEITHIO eich bod wedi mwynhau dathliadau diwrnod Santaf gyda’ch ffrindiau a’ch

David teulu.

I hope that you have enjoyed your St David’s Day celebrations with your friends and family.

I am not a career politician. After obtaining my degree in microbiology, I had a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry and in business before retraining as a maths teacher. Prior to being elected as your MP last year, I was teaching maths, devoting myself to empowering young people to benefit from the same opportunities that had been afforded to me. I am proud to bring my skills and experience to Parliament and to commit myself to serving the people of our beautiful island.

The strength of our democracy depends on people having the courage and convictions in their beliefs to stand for public office. I applaud anyone who chooses to put themselves before the voters to stand for election.

However, I believe that our democracy is strengthened further, and the capacity of Government to improve people’s lives is enhanced, when candidates develop professional experience outside politics that they can then bring into the political sphere.

I am hugely proud to have entered a Parliament with such a talented group of new MPs from such diverse professional backgrounds, including counter terrorism experts, teachers and entrepreneurs. And I am proud that in December a record number of female MPs were elected to Parliament, with 220 women winning seats.

Last week I was honoured to be asked to act as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock MP, and his Ministerial team.

Being elected as the Member of Parliament for Ynys Môn is an enormous privilege and serving the people of our island will always be my priority. But this appointment will mean I can achieve even more.

To better serve Ynys Môn

Iwant to be a strong and influential voice at the heart of Government - to champion our island and help to unlock its vast economic potential.

For too long, Ynys Môn has been on the periphery from Cardiff and London, not just geographically but also politically and economically. The economic decline that this island has endured over the last twenty years should never have been allowed to happen. I am determined that our island is never neglected again, and I will be fighting for Anglesey at the very top of Government.

Service to Ynys Môn and my constituents is my absolute priority. I am excited to report that my new constituency office in Holyhead is now open. I have recruited a new and enthusiastic local team who care passionately about the island and its people and who have grown up here.

The office is located on Stanley Street in the centre of town and the contact details can be found on my website - www. virginiacrosbie.co.uk. I am determined to be an accessible MP and regular surgery appointments will be held across the island. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you need the support of me or my team. All services will be offered in both Welsh and English.

You can keep up to date with my work as your MP via both Facebook and Twitter. However, each month I will be producing a bilingual newsletter that will feature more detailed reports on my activities in Parliament and in the constituency, my views on current national and international affairs and an article featuring a Hidden Hero – someone who has dedicated their lives in service of the island and its people. If you would like to sign up to receive my e-newsletter, please visit www.virginiacrosbie.co.uk/newsletter.

Whether you voted for me or not, me and my team are here for you. I’m committed to helping deliver this Government’s radical agenda to improve the lives of people across North Wales.

The hard work to deliver real, lasting change for Anglesey has only just begun. There’s a long way to go, but we’re finally reversing 32 years of inaction and delay.

PS. Thank you to those of you who have supported me on social media recently. This is an invaluable platform to connect with the people of Ynys Môn and I am determined to maintain a presence on social media.

I do hope the abuse that I have received, particularly from men, does not put off other women from entering politics.
