London beat Island leading by example in protecting the most vulnerable
THIS has been a frightening and a worrying time for us all and, in just three weeks, we have seen our way of life change beyond all recognition as we face an invisible, yet deadly, enemy.
The Coronavirus pandemic is the biggest global public health emergency in modern history. It requires decisive action, at home and abroad, of the kind not normally seen in peacetime. The people of the United Kingdom are being asked to make enormous sacrifices, including their personal freedoms.
As the MP for our island I support the Government’s approach in shielding the most vulnerable in our communities, slowing the rate of infection through social distancing and mobilising every area to defend our people and our country. We must save lives by reducing pressure on our precious NHS.
As the situation has escalated, the people of Ynys Môn have risen to the challenges that the pandemic has presented and I applaud the community initiatives to support the effort against Covid-19 that are going on across the island. Groups such as the Seiriol Good Turn Scheme, Menter Môn, Medrwn Môn, #CaruAmlwch, Covid-19 Mutual Aid Môn and Môn CF have provided support to many of the most vulnerable, and impacted, people across the island. The pandemic has been devastating for the hospitality sector but, in the face of huge adversity, many local restaurants, such as Catch 22, the Tide Café, Sandy Mount House, the Gaerwen Arms and the Sea Shanty Café have employed their facilities to deliver crucial services such as providing for the food bank.
Many different businesses have contributed in many different ways; the bakery Becws Môn has produced bread for food banks, Halen Môn and
MooreCool helped with fridges, Huws Gray provided heavy duty bags and DU Construction donated significant funds to the Anglesey Foodbank.
If you would like to help Anglesey Foodbank reach their £20,000 fund raising target please go to their www. gofundme.com page.
We should all be hugely proud of the way so many organisations have united against this pandemic and, once this crisis is over, we must all unite to support the businesses that gave so much in times of such hardship.
Last week the Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock MP, called for an army of volunteers to support the NHS by providing assistance to the 1.5 million most vulnerable people who must be shielded from the Coronavirus.
It is clear that Ynys Môn is leading by example!
As a result of Covid-19, my team and I are receiving many more emails and calls than normal, covering wide areas of policy and available Government support. In addition to the large volume of correspondence, the situation is extremely fluid, meaning that advice that I can give in relation to support is continuously changing. In order to provide you with the most current and useful advice I have created an information portal on my website – www.virginiacrosbie.co.uk
If the information you require is not on the portal then please do contact my office – my team and I are here to help you.
The spread of the Coronavirus is rapidly accelerating across the United Kingdom. But you can help. You can help to slow the transmission of the virus, and to protect our NHS, by staying at home. In his address to the nation Boris Johnson ended by saying “in this fight we can be in no doubt that each and every one of us is directly enlisted. Each and every one of us is now obliged to join together. We will beat the coronavirus and we will beat it together and therefore I urge you at this moment of national emergency to stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives.”
Let’s adhere to that message and, together, let’s defeat Covid-19.
Cadwch yn ddiogel.
