Mountain rescue team saves injured woman

AWOMAN was flown to hospital with “multiple injuries” after falling while out in Snowdonia.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue volunteers and the coastguard helicopter were called out after the woman fell around five metres from the Cneifion Arete a week last Sunday.

She was flown to hospital after being treated by first responders.

A mountain rescue spokesman said: “The team were called out to reports of a solo female climber having fallen four to five metres from the Cneifion Arete, suffering multiple injuries.

“Due to the severity of the incident the coastguard helicopter was requested ... and lifted a number of team members on to the hill to assist the winchman and, once treated and on the helicopter, she was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd for treatment.”

The incident was one of many for mountain rescue crews to deal with that weekend, with volunteers saying they dealt with “some extremely serious situations” during the period.

The coastguard helicopter also assisted a man who suffered a dislocated shoulder after falling on Glyder Fawr on the Saturday.

He was winched from the Seniors Ridge and taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd.

On the Sunday, South Snowdonia

Search and Rescue Team was called to reports a 50-year-old man had fallen from his mountain bike near Lake Vyrnwy and suffered pelvic injuries.

The air ambulance also assisted and the man was taken to hospital.

North East Wales Search and Rescue Team were also called out to help with a number of serious injuries.

On the Saturday, they were called to help a young girl with a serious lower leg injury at Pistyll Rhaeader waterfall.

They transporte­d her from the scene and handed her over to the care of the Wales Air Ambulance crew.

And on Sunday, the team were called to assist with a female mountain biker who had fallen while riding in the Berwyn mountains near Llandrillo.
