VICAR OF DIBLEY RETURNS ... IN LOCKDOWN

-

NORTH Wales-born Dawn French is bringing the nation’s favourite vicar back to our screens this Christmas, the BBC has confirmed.

The comedian will return as Geraldine Granger for the latest instalment of the popular show called The Vicar Of Dibley In Lockdown.

The 63-year-old said: “Back in the dog collar, back in Dibley and back on your telly at Christmas. I couldn’t be happier. Bless you.”

French (pictured) was born in

Holyhead’s former Y Gors maternity hospital in 1957, while her father Denys was a corporal technician stationed at nearby RAF Valley.

She soon left the area to attend boarding school in Plymouth, before travelling around the country with her family to various schools.

Despite her short-lived stay in North Wales, Dawn French’s popularity as a star of the silver screen and champion of the larger lady has won her many fans in this region.

Meanwhile, the show’s writer Richard Curtis said: “Like every village in the country, there’s been a lot happening in Dibley this year – and Dawn has got a lot to say about it.”

The show will return for three 10-minute episodes airing weekly, while a 30-minute compilation will also air over Christmas, the Daily Star reports.

The synopsis teases: “During lockdown, post lockdown and pre-another-lockdown, Geraldine has been writing and delivering monthly sermons to her parishioners via Zoom... when she can make it work.”

The show first aired in November 1994 for a six-episode run. It returned two years later in 1996 for two specials, before a four-episode second season was finally released in 1997.

The show was hugely popular winning many awards.
