NEW SAINTS SIX POINTS CLEAR IN CYMRU PREMIER

-

FLINT Town United had to go all the way back to September 23 for their last win, but they finally broke the spell that condemned them to seven straight defeats since then with a thumping 3-0 win over Haverfordwest County.

Alex Jones gave Flint a 1-0 lead in the first half and then Connor Harwood made it 2-0 in the 50th minute.

Alaric Jones then saw red for the Bluebirds with his second yellow card before it became 10v10 when Wes Baynes was sent for an early bath.

Kieran Lewis became the third player to be sent off before Ben Steer made it 3-0 .

Scott Ruscoe knew his New Saints weren’t going to get an easy ride at Cardiff Met and so it proved as they struggled to bag a 1-0 win to move six points clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier League.

In the end, the small margin of difference came in the 55th minute when Liam Black conceded an own goal.

Connah’s Quay Nomads had to take the field without Callum Roberts and Lewis Brass, who were both missing due to their red cards picked up in the 2-1 victory over Caernarfon Town, but they were still good enough to beat basement team Cefn Druids 2-1.

A Michael Wilde header opened the scoring for the champions before an own goal from Ryan Kershaw doubled the lead.

Josef Faux pulled one back for Druids in the 63rd to ensure there was a competitive edge to the game right to the end.

Newtown picked up a point on the road at Jenner Park as they held Barry Town United to a scoreless draw in the other game. It means Barry have now gone five games without a win.

● Caernarfon Town and Bala were not in action over the weekend (see below): the Canaries next play Haverfordwest at the Oval on Saturday, while the high-flying Lakesiders can return to second spot, at least temporarily, with victory at home to Newtown on Friday evening.

● NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect Service told the Bala Town squad who faced Penybont on Saturday 14th November to self-isolate 14 days due to three members of the Penybont travelling party testing positive for COVID-19, leading to the postponement of Aberystwyth Town v Bala Town last Friday (November 20).

However, after Bala Town presented evidence of their processes in line with the stringent FAW Return to Play Protocols, Bala Town were instructed by the NHS Track and Trace that the initial decision has been overturned and the club will no longer need to conduct a period of self-isolation.

As a result, the Lakesiders’ match against Newtown is permitted to go ahead as scheduled.
