Free parking in bid to boost local shopping for Christmas

-

GWYNEDD Council’s free Christmas parking scheme will return this year in a bid to support high street shops and local businesses over the festive period.

As a result, all county council owned car parks will offer free parking from December 12 until December 27.

Such a boost is expected to be especially pertinent this year due to the ongoing economic blow delivered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cllr Gareth Griffith, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“We hope that the people of Gwynedd will make the most of the offer to support the county’s high street businesses.

“By shopping locally, rather than travelling for hours, you are helping the local economy, protecting our environment and ensuring more time to enjoy the festive period with family.”

Gwynedd Council is also running a campaign on social media encouraging people to support local shops this Christmas.

Information on a host of local businesses will be available on the https://bit.ly/ buylocal_2020 website.

Cllr Dyfrig Siencyn, the leader of Gwynedd Council, added: “Businesses in all parts of Gwynedd, from Bangor to Aberdyfi, Pen Llŷn to Bala in Penllyn offer a fantastic range of products and special delicacies.

“This year, more than ever before, the run-up to Christmas will be extremely important for our businesses, and we very much hope that the people of the county will make an effort to support Gwynedd companies over the festive period.”
