MP backs hedgehog rescue centre

-

Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie visited Hedgehuggles Rescue to show her support for the local group that helps more than 500 injured hedgehogs back to health every year.

Virginia met with Bonnie, who is on the road to recovery after being injured by a strimmer – a common accident for the mammals - that have declined all over the UK in the last 40 years.

The non-profit organisation, based in Valley, is run by Sue Timperley and Virginia discussed its work during her visit. She was told Hedgehuggles Rescue is appealing for funds to carry on rescuing hedgehogs.

At the moment, it has 17 of the animals needing treatment and often they need antibiotics and other medicines after being injured. When recovered, all hedgehogs are returned to the wild.

“My heart melted when I saw Bonnie, who’s had a tough time following her fight with a strimmer, but she was in excellent hands with Sue and her team of volunteers,” said Mrs Crosbie.

“This organisation just loves hedgehogs and it’s really important they are saved to go back into the wild and make sure we have a good population here on the island.

“But Sue and her team need donations to keep up the good work. If you can help, then please get in touch via the group’s Facebook page at: https:// www.facebook.com/ Hedgehugglesrescue/

Sue added: “Thank you to Virginia for coming to visit to see our work and for her support of our organisation.

“It’s really good our MP has shown an interest and she has highlighted we need financial support to carry on the good work of saving Anglesey’s hedgehogs.”
