Second heavy 6N loss for Wales women

-

WALES’ Women succumbed to their second hammering of the Six Nations, going down 45-0 to Ireland at the Arms Park in Cardiff on Saturday afternoon.

Warren Abrahams’ side are yet to score a point in 160 minutes of rugby, with the defeat coming on the back of a 53-0 thrashing at the hands of France last week.

Things looked ominous from the start for Wales with Ireland running in four tries in the opening 17 minutes, two apiece for Eimear Considine and Beibhinn Parsons.

Hannah Tyrrell converted two before Sene Naoupu went over just before the half hour mark with the visitors enjoying a 31-0 lead at the break.

Wales tightened up in the second half and defended tenaciously - initial stats have them making 141 tackles to Ireland’s 61 - but eventually they broke, with Ireland carrying for over 1000 metres during the match.

Dorothy Wall went over nine minutes before the end and fly-half Tyrrell bagged a lastminute converted try, taking her tally for the day to 15 points.

Scotland now face Italy next week and Wales will face whoever comes off second best in that clash in a fortnight’s time.
