A dairy offering ewe can’t refuse ANGLESEY’S GODFATHER TAKES SPECIAL DELIVERY IN GANGSTER-THEMED AD FOR ISLAND BUSINESS

- Andrew Forgrave

LATE at night a shiny black car pulls up outside a light-festooned hotel, disgorging three Mafiosi types in menacing shades and suits.

They have a special delivery to make to Anglesey’s Godfather, seated behind a large desk in a dimly-lit room.

He opens the briefcase. His face lights up...

The scenes are from a smart new video made by Anglesey locals to showcase an unlikely mobster tipple – sheep’s milk.

Then again, why not? One of history’s most famous gangsters, Al Capone, had a fondness for dairy products and played a part in Chicago’s infamous milk wars.

It’s believed he even had a role in the development of modern milk labelling.

The Anglesey video was made by Valley filmmaker Matt Evans for Llanerchymedd sheep farmer Huw Jones to promote his business, Llaeth Medra Milk.

On Wednesday, Huw began making his first deliveries of ewe’s milk to Siop Ellis Spar, Llangefni.

He said: “We wanted to have a bit of fun with the video while keeping it professional.

“It’s a new product, so I wanted it to have a bit of swagger.” Roping in friends to play gangsters, Huw approached Matt, 24, to make the video. Having completed a Masters in filmmaking techniques, Matt is currently showcasing a short film, Between The Headphones, at the Chattanooga Film Festival in Tennessee.

It stars comedian Tudur Owen, Bafta Cymru nominee Hanna Jarman and philosophy student Barnaby Omar.

Giving the milk video a suitably glamorous backdrop was The Bulkeley Hotel, Beaumaris. “Originally Huw wanted a James Bondstyle video,” said Matt.

“I did some reading up and it evolved into something a little different.

“We filmed it a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday evening, when we hoped things would be quieter.

“It wasn’t easy as we had to film around the hotel guests as well as observing Covid protocols.”

By next year Huw hopes to be milking 200 ewes.

He’s already launched one product – a range of flavoured milk drinks produced at Llangefni’s Food Technology Centre.

“Local sales have been very good,” he said. “I’m now trying to promote my milk further afield and that was reason for making the video.”

All the actors were Huw’s friends. Filmed by a drone arriving at the hotel, they supplied their own suits and sunglasses for the production.

Some of the gear fitted better than others. “The man seen opening the briefcase at the end is big guy and his suit was far too small for him,” said Huw.

“He couldn’t stand up!

“That’s why he’s filmed sitting down at a desk with the briefcase in front of him, so you can’t see what he’s wearing.”
